--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am working on the following projects, some of them known, others less so. None of these are restricted to bevin members, and all are invited. In these projects I am asking that you create an avatar for the purpose of participation. The following projects are meant to supplement your cavern explorations, not to serve as your sole interaction in URU.

Referee's Bevin and Cavern Races
There is a thread on this forum under Other Bevins as well as a thread on the MOUL forum. At present I need people to test the race rules and procedures. I need potential racers and referees to contact me, let me know in what capacity they wish to help (yes, you can do both). I need those who want to help to go through the process -- contacting Referee to receive a new avatar name, create a new avatar with that name, choose which races you wish to test, and then proceed to race while informing Referee of progress as well as any problems. After the first of the year I hope we can start the actual race events.

The racing avatar you create is not meant to be permanent, so you need not worry about your appearance or understanding of the mysteries of URU. If you wish to become a referee, then you will create a RefName avatar, which may be permanent or not as you wish. We hope that all referee avatars will join Referee's Bevin and keep buddy lists for the racers assigned.

The future of Referee's Bevin and the continuation of URU sports activities depends on interest and participation. It may be that in time, the bevin and races will end and the bevin will be deleted. If the activities continue to entertain our fellow explorers then the bevin and the referee avatars will continue to serve as needed.

The races we have so far are written up on the threads mentioned above. I am hoping that Myss Terrie's bevin will host the next door opening competition. Because we now have /autoshout command, we will need to increase the challenge by decreasing the number needed to open the doors in Tsogal and Delin.

Friends of the Fissure
There is a thread for this under Other Bevins as well as a thread on the Guild of Writers forum. The group's forum can be found at Friends of the Fissure. At present, the forum is mostly private because we are still working out the backstory and doing the necessary research. FoF is an experiment, which requires input from many minds in order to evolve. If you want to register for the FoF forum please contact me via PM here or by email (make sure there is something specific in the subject line -- ie, I want to register for FoF forum), and I will approve your registration for the name you give me -- be sure that I know who you are under your better known name, should you create an FoF avatar with a new name.

At the IC level, FoF gives those interested in pursuing the deeper spiritual meanings of URU a place to express their beliefs -- those given to us by Yeesha and found in various ancient texts. FoF is not anti-guild, it is non-guild. It is non-monastic, non-celibate, but does have some appearance and behavior requirements.

At the OC level, FoF is a role-playing fan fic, in which we are creating a storyline that complements the story written by Cyan. In this aspect we must tread carefully to avoid crossing the lines of canon and copyright. We need to have scripts that we can play out in public places. We need good guys and bad guys, and the dedication to keep our story active and entertaining.

FoF may in time become age builders, supplying places to visit such as the group's HQ in an old Spanish mission house on a piece of land not far from the Cleft at Tomanha. Another age being planned is the world where a human woman lived for 11 years following the death of Dr. Elias Zandi. In the library of the FoF HQ we can supply all manner of journals, art, clues, mysteries, and eventually linking books.

We will need researchers, philosophers, writers, actors, artists, and ubergeeks to handle the technical aspects of age building. By creating this story "in house" we are circumventing some of the turmoil present in the current age building structure.

Ideas? Suggestions? Criticisms?
I can not do this on my own. Ms. isis has been performing marvels with research, and Dimitrios has shared his brilliant observations and speculations. Whether you are into racing at Referee's Bevin or playing the role of Yeesha follower in FoF, we need you. I need you. Please share your insights.

I was curious if you still needed help with the winners certificate for the races. I just finished the Laki'ahn Mask project for the Subterranean Restoration so I should be free the beginning of the years if you need me to rally the Rubricators into action.

Absolutely. Need help with everything because the races have not even started yet. So see what sort of digital certificate spiffiness you can create so as to further tempt folks into joining the races.

And we need to see some more race times. Mine are impressive, but then I am a veteran of some 60 avatars' experience. What do normal explorers do?

An icon for message boards might be a nice prize too for the winners.

Towards the weekend or early next week I'll do some timings and post or send you the results. I don't know my schedule yet, since school is out for the next two weeks and I have a kid who has to do the scholarship paperwork and admission essays on the break. We're supposed to sit down tomorrow or Thursday and work out our computer schedules.

Just a few variations I had for a 'winners certificate'..these are just drafts so I am open to suggestions. I want a different certificate for each race..I picked the Prime Age to start with. The winners name would be added later in place of the green line. I also thought it would be good to have a photo of the winner..maybe in place of the upper right hand symbol. The one thing I noticed is these drafts looks more like..calenders than certificates, never made a certificate before. Any ideas?

Atheni, those are fantastic -- and just perfect as prizes for the Prime Age Races. Such an image could be offered to the winners as wallpaper for the computer.

ms. isis idea about a special winners icon to be used on the forums is another good prize. It would have to be reducible to 80x80 (or whatever the size is ) -- perhaps a cup with a spiral motif. If we are going to give out three prizes per race -- gold, silver, bronze -- the colour is the only variation.

The remaining race which needs a prize is the Eder Door Prize. We will, of course, be sitting this one out but I am hoping that by March or so we can move ahead with a Delin race. Because /autoshout makes crowds less of a problems I am recommending that we look for the smallest team that can open the door and get all through before the timer resets.

Keep the ideas coming.

Is there someone in the bevin who would like to organize the Delin race? I may have taken on more than I can handle. Also we need more referees for the Prime Age Races.

In short, I NEED HELP. If these ideas is beyond us then we should drop it, but I have seen my bevin mates do some remarkable things and I have tremendous confidence in you.

Please contact me if you can help. My hope is that we can spread out the work so that no one is doing everything. And afterall, URU is not a spectator sport

Ok..this is a quick illustration of a Wallpaper/Certificate for the Relto Page Races. Any suggestion on improvements are welcome. I wasn't sure if I should put the images on the Relto pages...I was afraid it might spoil things for new exployers.

I would say any explorer who wants to participate in this race should already know where all the pages are if they expect to stand a chance of winning. Therefore, you're not spoiling anything for them.

DedHed is absolutely correct. The races are for those who have already played all the way through at least once. Not all pages are being included in the race, since some are intermittent and others require completing yet another entire age to acquire. So there is no risk of spoilers for racers. The trick to racing is knowing all the shortcuts. For instance if the racer is waiting for the Kadish floor to prime, that is a great opportunity to nip over to Teledahn's linking stone and grab the two cloths in Gahreesen.

I realize that there will be temptation to pick up pages or clothing items that are just there for the taking, but because a few of those require extra effort (for instance, making the jump for the page in Eder Kemo) I do not want to penalize a racer's time for something not required to complete the age. The other reason for keeping the relto page race separate is that there is an additional challenge to getting back to the pages that the racer has already passed by.

To get the pages in Kadish, the racer will link back to the vault and then climb back to where the tree page is, then return to the vault to get to the butterfly page. Or the racer can do the pages the other way around. In time we will see which method is the fastest.

Atheni's art is quite a prize. Once we have the details worked out we need to do an advertizing blitz, drum up interest and get folks moving.

I'm thinking Atheni meant by displaying it here on the forum it may be construed as spoilers for those newbies just looking at the forum with no intentions of actually playing the (race) game... My thinking however warped as it may be...lol

Great job again as usual Atheni!!!

Perhaps that could be an issue, but the UO forum has a complete list of all the pages, where they are and what they do. Also, Inanna posted an animated Relto book, showing all the pages and what they do, but not where they are.

My take on this is that anyone who wants to run a race is going to be someone who has already played through several avatars and knows where everything is. Such a person will be interested in seeing what s/he gets for the effort, but will not find any spoilers there.

Now, where are my racers and referees? We need to test run these races with someone other than me. I already know what I am doing, but I need to know what someone else can do with the same race. Volunteers? Please?
