The mantra of all real estate or surreal estate in this case.

This post is directed to those who are doing the actual building in SL -- so mostly you, Colorado, for this forum. I love how you and Anarta have joined Eder Gira and Eder Tsogal with a bridge, how the Myst Island is just off the main island, and you have that wonderful classroom building, the trailer and the beach dancing.

I confess to being very new to all this and maybe not understanding all the intricacies, but it seems to me that the Myst constructions are scattered all over SL, leaving the D'ni Refugees working at cross purposes. Each sim is trying to collect funds from the same pool of people and none of us has the funds to donate a sufficient amount to keep all the sims going. Ahnonay is already gone and Devokan will disappear February 7. This is a great pity. Devokan is truly a wonder and I will be sorry to see it go because I probably won't have a chance to explore it fully before it vanishes.

I just learned today about Open Source and that folks are trying to recreate Myst worlds there because the "land" is free. SL has the advantage of much variety and many choices, but the costs are prohibitive for anything as complex as URU. Many refugees despair that MOUL or MORE will ever happen and seem resigned to making their online home in SL or OS.

Assuming for the moment that we are going to stick with SL while OS gets sorted out, I am wondering if we could make a single cohesive Myst sim with adjoining living areas, shopping areas, and open space. Instead of detached housing, we create apartment buildings such as are in Bevin, thus stacking residents and reducing the overall prim footprint. Is there a way to get all the various landholders to work together (a tall order, I know, but its just crazy enough to work), to move their creations so that there are fewer donation points and the funds collected are distributed amongst the landholders according to how much land each one brings to the group?

Another possible solution -- in addition to pooling our resources in SL land and creativity -- would be to have a rotating collection of "ages." Is is possible to retain a sim in some form so that it can be put back later? That way a beloved area could be replaced by something new, but not lost forever. This would keep the SL world fresh and interesting, without losing the beauty of any one age.

Folks on this forum who know me understand that one of my driving forces is to see a problem and make some attempt to fix it. I am not always right nor popular for doing so, but no one can fault me for failing to try to make things better.

Thoughts?

Someone else would know the situation better than I do. What I say is based on observation only.

Anarta and Colorado's sim is already at the maximum size and they couldn't fit everything in. Others have picked up sections, like the bevin and Eder Delin, to put on the excess area they have on their sims. Those individuals seem to be using their sims for other personal reasons, so pooling together in those cases may not work.

It is sad to donate to multiple areas, but it might be necessary due to the above.

I'd say that Eder Gira is already what you propose in SL. Just that our explorers in SL also live other SL lives and live off-sim. Or they don't "live" in SL and just visit Eder Gira during the week as they need to.

Eder D'ru (forgive me-I know that's spelled wrong) was a wonderful creation and a fantastic idea. Devokan is fantastic too - and well loved. It's a shame they had to go. It's a shame and ridiculous that SL sim ownership has to be so expensive.

With the way SL is designed, probably providing teleport links from sim to sim is the only way to truly connect them. And I have a feeling some would not do as you suggest anyway, because they just want to do "their own thing". Which is okay too. Just makes the donating person have to choose where to give their donation.

I met up with Devokan's designer and he is putting his talents to work on the Open Source site. I suggest that OS bears some investigation, although I have not been able to log in Seems that they let me create an account under Inanna and then I find out that they only allow logins from all lowercase names. Still trying to sort that out. Very Happy

Yes, we all want what we had in MOUL and that seems to be the thing we can't have. Someone estimated that there were some 400 Myst fans in SL and each is on a single journey.

For now I am going to enjoy my SL hood and my lovely neighbor. BTW, I have put up some posters in my house at #28 which can be copied for a mere L$25.

I've read about that open source on the various forums, and it is much better priced for much the same thing. It is something I'll think about when I'm set up for an open source computer.

I'll probably do both at that point. SL allows me to combine my writing efforts with being in touch with Myst friends.

I saw your posters. They're great.
