"a lot of discussion followed about how the dynamics of MOUL developed with players participating as part of the unfolding story line...Rand inserted some comments on how this was something that Cyan wanted to do. Overall it is a very interesting discussion and certainly leaves the future open for anything to happen re revitalization of the MOUL progressoin, and Cyan possibly returning to the direction of the ongoing development. Who knows. It is great to be able to hear this discussion in the very place it all unfolded. The space this panel discussion is occuring is evidently the former Quality Control area i think in the new building at Cyan."
"now he is talking about the movie project, and how they arranged the option on that now.
someone asked what is the future of Open Source MOUL?
he replied in some detail, and this is a loose transcription, not exact but as close as my typing allows...
we are rolling down the open source path because we dont have anything else to do, and this other thing came along, and suddengly Mark deforest got involved in this other things we got this plan on what to do, and we have plug ins that we have to be careful with, and suddenly Mark is engaged in money bringing in work, and that took prioroty, and we still have no other plans to do with URU and open source we would like to run the servers and still have open source and allow pppl to build stuff, because it seems like this will be a cool way to do it, it still has to have a filter.
so yes, they still plan to do it, but it is delayed by a cash making project
more questions about MOUL Open Source:
Rand's replies, again loose transcription....
people are entertained in a lot of differnt ways, neutrals, sidekickers, creatives, followers, workers, there is a differnt universe of ppl if you are not making content, but the hardest part of all of this, is the content....you guys making content is the key to it staying alive....when we release open source, Ages come out and when they come out like new things i think that is kinda cool, this is where we always wanted to go
[he discussed different roles for differnt kinds of people]
there are also people who are maintainers and testers.....
people who want to translate names and doccument things in ages
people who want to be helpers
all of these things correspond to the real world...practical applications to open source...that is what i am dreaming of
there is stuff emedded in the engine that we have to remove...all that detaching of pieces will take technical resources...
as far as volunteers helping there are technical questions about what do se send to peole, and how do we send it...
(all this was in reference to questions about MOUL Open Source...sorry for the fragments, very hard to hear on the live stream)"
